Here’s the newest question from FOODPICKER.org:

Since I live alone, I rarely cook (if ever).  I have type 2 diabetes and I’m wondering which is better… eating frozen dinners or restaurant food?  Thank you for your help.

I tend to say to avoid frozen dinner entrees due to the high amount of salt they contain. For someone who doesn’t cook it can be hard to balance frozen dinners and eating out and still watching your carbohydrate intake.

To answer the question,  I would recommend eating frozen dinners because you know exactly how many carbohydrates and salt they contain. You can also click on the link in the far left column on the Foodpicker.org website labeled “Frozen,” to see a list of foods that have the name of the item,  the nutrition facts label, and whether or not they are a good choice.

If you are able and have time, you could try buying frozen vegetables and adding those to different items. Maybe adding more vegetables to a pasta bowl or if you have a mini frozen pizza you could add some more vegetables to it. You can also buy frozen fruit and make smoothies for breakfast.

If you were interested in cooking more you can look for cooking classes for singles, the classes usually help you scale down a recipe so you can eat for one or two versus a family style meal.

On a night you choose take out make sure to ask for the nutrition facts so you can see how much carbohydrates, salt, and fat you are eating. It’s important to know what you’re putting in your body because it can have effects later in life.
